HDD Regenerator is a Windows tool that scans for and repairs bad sectors on hard disks.

If you have bad sectors on a disk, HDD Regenerator may be able to repair them either so that they’re completely operational again or at least accessible enough to read the data on them. Bad sectors are magnetic errors that occur on a physical disk over time. These errors make it so that data can’t be read from or written to those sectors, effectively limiting the total space available.

When you run HDD Regenerator and point it to a particular disk, it will scan that entire drive. This process is not particularly fast and can take a long time depending on the size of the drive. Attempting to repair these magnetic errors is done through a Hysteresis loops generator. This process can work on formatted and unformatted drives, partitioned and unpartitioned drives and drives regardless of what file system is in place, such as FAT or NTFS.

HDD Regenerator does have a pre-scan mode, which can identify bad sector locations quickly. If you’re knowledgeable enough, you can use that information to determine whether the longer operation is necessary or even worthwhile. If the longer process is necessary, it needs to be done outside Windows, and HDD Regenerator will create a bootable CD, DVD, Blu-ray, USB drive or SD card that you can use. There are no complex settings, and even most casual users should run the program without issue.

There’s apparently no surefire way to rebuild bad sectors. Some sectors are so bad as to be beyond help. This isn’t a problem exclusive to HDD regenerator but rather HDD technology in general. The developer claims about a 60-percent success rate, which may be higher than industry averages.

The problem here for the consumer is that HDD Regenerator is trialware. Try it, and then, decide to buy it, but you’re still making that decision without knowing whether HDD Regenerator will work enough in order to reclaim the data you need. Nevertheless, the developer does offer a 30-day moneyback guarantee if you’re not satisfied with the outcome. However, updates are not included in that purchase price. Minor updates are included for a period of one year, and major upgrades are provided at a discount but will still cost you additional money.
